The Practice of the Presence of God

That he had placed his sins between him and God, to tell Him that he did not deserve His favors, but that God still continued to bestow them, sometimes taking him by the hand and showing him to the court of Heaven, that all could see the wretch He was pleased to honor.
Brother Lawrence, Casey Fish, • The Practice of the Presence of God
This habit led to a marvelous struggle between God and the soul: God giving and the soul denying what it received was God. In this battle the soul’s strength in faith was such as to be stronger than God, being that no matter how much God gave, the soul could always deny that what it received was God Himself.
