Surrender is when your ego, the independent acting part of you, brings its will to Spirit and gives permission and authority for Spirit to act. It's like stepping aside and allowing Spirit to take the lead in taking care of your body, mind, and responses to energies.
The scriptures give greatest importance to sacrifice to the higher power.

It might sound counterintuitive, but surrender is not easy, even though it is wise. We seem inclined to worry, to stress, to scratch and claw, to try to be ‘in control,’ all the while overestimating how much control we actually have. It takes grace to surrender to God’s will.
