Stoicism for Inner Peace

As Jean-Paul Sartre once stated: “If you are lonely when you are alone, you are in bad company.”

“Never say of anything, ‘I have lost it.’ but, ‘I have returned it.’”

“Worse than war is the very fear of war.”

So why don’t we allow ourselves to just let go of the burden of the future, knowing that, whatever happens, we are in full control of the most powerful weapon available: our inner faculty.

“It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people, but care more about their opinion than our own.”

When things can’t go wrong, there’s nothing to worry about. When there’s nothing to worry about, the fear of the future won’t sap our energy and make us feel miserable. By unconditionally embracing our destiny, we have nothing to fear.

Ownership is just an idea. It’s an illusion. In reality, we can never truly own something that is beyond our control. If we could, then nothing in the world would be able to separate us from what’s ours.

When we embrace whatever happens, what could go wrong? Nothing.

Anxiety isn’t caused by the environment. It’s caused by the position we take towards the environment.
