Fill all the holes and fix anything with the drywall. Sand for better bonding. Make sure your walls are clean, get some TSP and wash those fuckers after you sand.

If it’s your first time definitely take your time with taping trim but practice making your cutting skills more refined try your best not to get paint on the tape anyway.

Well the first thing you want to make sure is the paint going to stick on the walls? If the current paint is not flat sheen then you have to sand it or degloss it before you apply the primer. Nothing sadder than when someone paints their entire house and then a few days later sheets of paint come off. Kilz 2 is a good primer.

Painters tape isn’t perfect. I’ve used lots and none will 100% prevent paint seeping under. Remove the tape as soon as you’re done and check. You can get paint off pretty easily when it’s fresh, but once it’s cured it stays. So, take the time to check for little splatters on floors etc early on and wipe or scrape mistakes off.

Get a decent brush for edging. I like angled brushes with short handles. Also, using one of these sure beats carrying a full paint can around while you are climbing a ladder. Oh, and this thing will keep paint from dripping all over the can when you pour it.

Don’t press all the paint out of your roller! In your brain, going back to the tray takes too much time and effort, but it’s that sweet, sweet paint that keeps the pump pumping!
Also, try to roll into “wet” cuts. If your cut lines are dry, they’ll show.
