Out of Commission: Getting Every Christian Back to the Great Commission

My friend, the opportunity has come. The need is here. We live in a post-Christian culture proudly riding a landslide away from the truth. And swept in the landslide are millions—billions—of people speeding toward a Christless eternity.

If we as God’s children are to be about the Father’s business, we will have to make it our priority. We will have to sense the necessity and live with eternal priorities. Lack of witnessing is not always the result of a calloused attitude toward souls. Sometimes it’s just fifth or sixth on a list we never get around to finishing. Without eternal pr

many local churches are deteriorating through neglect of their purpose. Christ gave us a mission—we could call it a chore list, but it’s far bigger than that. It is our solemn responsibility. That mission is to evangelize the world.

This Great Commission is for the local church—every local church. It is our responsibility to reach the world with the gospel of Christ. But what makes up the local church? A missions budget? An outreach program? No, the local church is comprised of people—you and me.

Loving your neighbors, giving to the poor, maintaining a Christian testimony—all of these are important in spreading of the gospel, but none of these are actually spreading the gospel. If we want to reach the lost with the gospel, we have to actually share the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ for sin.
