I’ve used commitments to transform my health, my fitness, my finances, my relationships. And, of course, the commitment that changed everything—to love myself. I make it again and again.
One day, after giving my younger self love, I asked myself, Someday, I’ll be older and wiser. What would that man say to me today?
Look, life is short enough. We are but a brief flash of light, and then we’re gone. During our time here, we only have one job: to shine brilliantly. I say that because you exist, you must shine.
This morning, while reading my vow aloud, I realize that a vow is a vision as well. There is no compromise in a vow, you’re all in. And if you fall, it gives you something to get up for. You stand and dust yourself off, then return to it. Your vow leads you to greatness.
hit the gym. Already, I’m in the best shape I’ve been in years. My diet is on point, no exceptions. Whenever I’m tempted to cheat or slide, I ask myself, If I loved myself, what would I do? The answer is clear and I live it.
I once heard someone explain thoughts as this: we, as human beings, think that we’re thinking. Not true. Most of the time, we’re remembering. We’re reliving memories.
Watch your mind sometime and you’ll realize that it’s always answering questions. Fear is an answer to what could go wrong. Pain is an answer to what’s missing. You’ll quickly realize that the mind naturally goes for the negative, not the light.
As a wise friend likes to remind me, this is a practice. You don’t go to the gym once and consider yourself done. Same here. Meditation is a practice. Working out is a practice. Loving yourself, perhaps the most important of all, is a practice.
When a hero sets off on a quest, he knows that there will be obstacles along his path to treasure. That’s part of the grand adventure. You are the hero of your story. Hallucinated snakes are your obstacles.
