The Dance of The Trickster — A Poem.

In the dance of chaos and order,

Trickster moves like water;

Not against the rocks, but around them.

Look deeply, and you will see

How the mythological Loki, Coyote, Èṣù and Hermes

Are not separate from you.

Systems need to ritualise

Their own disruption and renewal,

Otherwise, they'll rot from within.

When the bamboo becomes too rigid,

It breaks in the strong wind.

When society becomes too fixed,

Trickster arrives uninvited.

Reject the shadow,

And it grows larger behind you.

Without the turning of dirt and soil,

New seeds cannot root.

Trickster does not take sides of good or bad.

He only reminds us that all boundaries

Are drawings in the sand.

When we silence the fool,

We silence our capacity for renewal.

When we marginalize disruption,

We block the path to transformation.

Our spiritual and material hunger is real.

Our need for nourishment is real.

This, too, Trickster teaches us

About impermanence and interbeing.

I have seen the face of Trickster

In my own mirror,

Laughing at my certainties,

Loving me nonetheless.

Honor the chaos that feeds the order.
