Consistency and faithfulness while sinning in no way diminish the sin. Paul calls for the church member in question to be expelled from the fellowship, and for the whole church to express remorse at what has happened (1 Corinthians 5 v 2). Faithfulness demonstrated in an otherwise prohibited relationship does not make it less sinful.

and that the church needs to be ready and equipped to walk alongside such brothers and sisters.

The stakes are high:

Leviticus 18 and 20

By definition, Christians are weak. We depend on the grace and generosity of God. We are the “poor in spirit” (Matthew 5 v 3). It is a mark of a healthy church that we can talk about these things, and so we need to do all we can to encourage a culture of being real about the hard things of the Christian life.

Timothy Keller sums it up neatly: In short, the coming of Christ changed how we worship, but not how we live.

But I want that conversation to take place in the context of the gospel,

anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation” 2 Corinthians 4 v 17, ESV

Aren’t we just picking and choosing which Old Testament laws apply?
