The Momoyama part of the name comes from the numerous peach ( momo ) trees that were planted on the hill ( yama ) where Fushimi Castle once stood

The first castle in Fushimi was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi on Shigetsu Hill (Momoyama-cho Taichoro, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto) in 1592.
