As you can see below my health bar, I have the buff "Taken Energy Cleaved". This means that I defeated the enemy in front of me, the Cleaved Taken Centurion. Two of these cleaved centurions spawn on either side, the right side is taken, and the left is cabal. Killing a cleaved cabal centurion will give Barrant Energy Cleaved.

Note: The orbs within each pair must remain balanced. For example, if you have 1 ball banked in one of the light orbs, but have just banked your fourth in the other light orb, you'll end up 'unbalancing' the forces, and lose all your progress for the light orbs. Essentially, just throw two balls into each orb whenever you make your balls.
