I don’t believe a centralized system can do content moderation globally. It can only be done through ranking and relevance algorithms, the more localized the better. In summary, here would be some bets I would make to increase engagement on Twitter, and thus retention, in order of priority:
- Rank replies based on users’ reactions.
- Optimize the feed based on people’s lookalikes.
- Make news exploration more intuitive in the Explore section and for searching topics.
- Widely release the downvote button for replies only.

- Social media must be resilient to corporate and government control.
- Only the original author may remove content they produce.
