2. When progressing from the 3rd string to the 2nd string, the first finger shifts up one fret.

For example, you'll notice that shape Y never comes directly before shape X. Similarly, shape Z never directly precedes shape Y.

What does matter is the fret position relative to your first note on the scale.

All of the notes in both the major and its relative minor scale are exactly the same;

Notice that they use three fingers on each string for left hand consistency.
