Highly recommend Rules of the Game (1939) but it's weird for what it doesn't mention: what underwrites all that wealth, how the charaters can be bored and unhappy in luxury.

One clue is the "Romantic Negress" music box. And the table piled high with bananas from Martinique & Guadeloupe plantations.
