I’m certain that there are more examples of this, but having been seduced by the films of Kubrick , Hitchcock, and Fellini, this was a revelation. Good filmmakers use the camera to tell a story, not to take pretty pictures. 13

The typical film director probably falls somewhere in between the extremes; Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock, and David l ynch are examples of auteurs , because their impact on the work is so profound that it becomes a kind of psychic extension of themselves.
