Spiritual Maturity and Growth“Children” refers to believers who are new in their faith—those just beginning their spiritual journey and needing assurance that their sins are forgiven and they know the Father.​“Young men” represent those who are maturing in their faith, experiencing spiritual strength, and learning to overcome spiritual challenges, particularly overcoming evil as they grow through Scripture and actively battle temptation.​“Fathers” points to believers who have grown deep in their walk with God, marked by a rich, long-standing relationship and wisdom gained through experience—these are spiritual mentors or “disciple-makers” who know God intimately and have cultivated faith over many years.​Personalized Encouragement and InstructionJohn addresses these groups to affirm each stage’s strengths and challenges, encouraging growth and ongoing discipleship appropriate to where each person is spiritually.​Unity Across All AgesWhile these groupings reflect unique characteristics, John ensures that every believer, regardless of their maturity, is reassured of God’s love, forgiveness, and the value of their faith journey.​By uniquely naming each group, John brings focus to the diversity and vitality of experiences in the Christian life, promoting both personal reflection and communal growth.

• We have “heard”- We have “Seen” and “looked upon”- We have “touched” with our hands

We should be vigilant in our efforts to look for Him. Jesus says, "Stay awake" which means we should be ORIENTED and ALERT to His coming.The essential meaning is not about physical wakefulness, but being spiritually alert for the coming challenges and depending on God's truth as outlined in His Word and that which is derived through the counsel of the Holy Spirit.We should be ALL in!

• Because Jesus lived and died for us, tearing the veil between our sin and God, we now have access to Him. (“Fellowship”)

It's also comforting to know that when we experience these thoughts, we're not alone.

They abandoned the family of Christ into the world to be of the world, thus indicating that they were not in Christ. - We hear the word anti-Christ and think immediately, the devil / satan. But in reality, based on this, all who abandon Christ do not abide in Him and ultimately in the Father. This resistance to Him but lack of resistance to the world points to a faith that is less than genuine.
