it’s not that we don’t want new technology to change our lives and solve our problems, it’s that this technology’s most breathless leaders don’t seem to possess basic discernment about what parts of life are actually annoying and painful, and what parts make it (living) worth the whole enterprise entirely. Which makes me hiiiiighly suspect as to why I’d want these people calling the shots in any kind of position in our culture in the first place. I mean, really, I’d call it a lack of imagination, except you don’t even have to some great fantastical powers of insight to notice that laundry sucks and talking to the life forms you brought unto the earth is possibly the whole point, in some circles.
