youtu.beI wanted to watch this video after a reel that popped up on my Insta feed in which Slawn talked about how his addiction helped his creative process and ended up helping him make money. That happens all the time, but not enough people are open to talk about it.
The interview started with this exact discussion. Straight to what drew my attention in the first place. I didn’t have any expectation from the conversation I was about to listen to, but in conclusion, I was disappointed.
What I liked about this interview:
He opens up about his current active addiction and the struggle of getting help when the same addiction helped and still helps him to make money.
He admits that he’s addicted to money.
Bring awareness to the difference between being African and African American.
Mentions that Chinese people ‘bought’ Nigeria, similarly to Greece, by buying ports or any other means that are part of the imports-exports sector. (I had no idea.)
Looks like he’s very open to collaborating with people and allowing them to have creative freedom.
My problems with the interview:
He refers to his baby mama as his girl. Man, you have two kids together. What do you mean, “my girl”? That’s your person and the mother of your kids. It gives lack of respect vibes, the overall way he talks about her.
He opens up about his addiction problems but doesn’t own up to them, nor does he do anything to change them and go to treatment. At least that’s what it seems like from what he says.
He doesn’t even know when his kid started talking and still doesn’t find it problematic that he stays 4 days straight at the studio to paint. Apparently, it bothers him that his ‘girl’ doesn’t like it.
It really gave the vibe of a “dude convo”, and I wasn’t having it.

Now to apply this logic in “name learning”:
a. Say the name of the person once out loud and then find a reason to mention it a second time.
The second time can be phrased either as a question, “Kass? Do I pronounce it correctly?” Or as a compliment, “Yappa yappa, that’s a very nice name!”
