I’ve been watching Chef & My Fridge and it has become my go to show while having my meals. It is a Korean reality programme where guests bring their fridges to the show and the chefs take turns to compete by cooking a dish with ingredients from the guests’ fridges. The twist is that the chefs would have to whip up dishes based on the guests’ taste profiles and preferences as they will be the ones judging and deciding the winning dish. It is extremely chaotic (as with all Korean reality) when the chefs have to put together a dish (and sometimes a 3 course meal) within a mere duration of 15 minutes. I can’t imagine cooking something within 15 minutes myself so it’s always nerve wrecking watching them cook with a 15min timer behind them.
It’s also extremely funny watching the chefs taking on different personalities - e.g. Chef Choi Hyun Seok being the flamboyant “show-off chef”, always pulling out his big gesture salt-sprinkling performance, Chef Kwon Sung Joon (Napoli Matfia from Culinary Wars) being the “show-off chef wannabe” where he even brought a notebook and started taking notes of what Choi Hyun Seok says. The hosts add an extra layer of humour as they often roast the chefs and make fun of them; and providing real time commentary as they go down to the cooking area at 5min mark to have a taste of their dishes in progress.
One of the most memorable episodes so far is the one where Jang Guen Suk was the guest- turns out this “Asia prince” can’t taste spicy food and asked for a spicy dish; so the chefs cooking his order was huffing and puffing while trying their dishes meanwhile Jang Guen Suk didn’t even have any change of expression.
Every episode features 2 orders for each guest so I am able to stop halfway after the first order and it’s just a quick and easy watch to enjoy while I have my meals!
