And let’s say those 500 people are divided perfectly into 100 five-person families.

By sliding the animal’s feelings up and down, an animal’s software uses the feelings like reins to keep the animal’s goals and the genes’ goals perfectly aligned.

This is the true nature of unchecked thought – random, uninvited, and sporadic appearances in consciousness. And when we allow the allure of these random appearances to dictate the direction of our lives, this is what leads us to fall onto the impulsive, ruminative side of the Thought See-Saw.

There’s nothing quite like a wedding that screams out, “Look at me!” while getting rewarded for it. I mean, you literally get a standing ovation for walking in a straight line down an aisle – the last time that probably happened was when you first learned how to walk.

So yup, it’s time to get yourself a job.

Where we are on this y-axis is a result of the state of our internal tug-of-war, so the first question we need to ask is: how do the two minds think?
